ما هي الخلايا الجذعية؟

    الخلايا الجذعية هي الخلايا "الأم" في الجسم حيث تتطور منها جميع الخلايا والأنسجة التي تكون جسم الإنسان.

    وتتميز الخلايا الجذعية بالخصائص الفريدة التالية:

• التجدّد الذاتي: يمكن أن تجدد الخلايا الجذعية ذاتها إلى ما لا نهاية. وتعرف هذه الخاصية بـ"الإنتشار".

• التمايز: لدى الخلايا الجذعية قدرة خاصة على التطور لتصبح خلايا ذات خصائص ووظائف محدّدة.

• غير متخصّصة: هي خلايا غير متخصّصة ينتج عنها خلايا متخصّصة.

   تم تحديد دم الحبل السري كمصدر غني لتلك الخلايا التي يمكن سحبها بعد ولادة الطفل مباشرة باستخدام تقنية بسيطة

   وآمنة وغير مؤلمة هي عبارة عن إجراء لا ينطوي على أية مخاطر ولا يشكّل أي ضرر على الأم أومولودها.

   خلافا للخلايا الجذعية الموجودة في نخاع العظم والتي تتقدم في السن مثلنا ،
